About Amanyangyun
Amanyangyun originated from the construction of the Liaofang Reservoir in Jiangxi Province in 2002. Fuzhou, formerly known as Linchuan, is the cultural center of eastern Jiangxi. In the early 2000s, the construction of the Liaofang Reservoir put the local villages' weathered Ming and Qing Dynasty ancient residences and a large number of camphor trees at risk. To prevent these large trees and ancient houses from being submerged, Mr. Ma Dadong, an entrepreneur from Fuzhou, organized a large-scale relocation endeavor. More than 10,000 large trees were transported to Shanghai and replanted, including an 80-ton ancient camphor tree. Along with the trees, dozens of ancient residences were carefully dismantled and transported to Shanghai for reconstruction. In 2009, Aman Group joined the project, ultimately bringing these trees and ancient houses back to life in the form of Amanyangyun. Thus, the trees and houses are in harmony, and heaven and earth are in balance.
Amanyangyun is adjacent to the bustling heart of Shanghai, only a 45-minute drive from the city center, offering a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle. Thirteen rebuilt Ming and Qing Dynasty ancient residences and twenty-four new suites are nestled in the serene camphor forest, providing guests with an Aman-style accommodation experience. In addition, the hotel features the renowned Aman Spa, five restaurants and bars, and the unique cultural center "Nan Shufang".
Amanyangyun’s story began 700 kilometres away in rural Fuzhou – a cultural heartland in China’s Jiangxi Province, characterised by camphor forests and historic villages. When plans for a much-needed reservoir were approved in 2002, the fate of these remnants of Old China appeared to be sealed, but Fuzhou native and philanthropist, Ma Dadong, was determined to prevent their destruction. He conceived a bold plan to relocate to Shanghai as many Ming and Qing Dynasty villas as possible, as well as 10,000 camphor trees. Aman joined the restoration project in 2009, and today, the completed Amanyangyun includes a comprehensive Aman Spa, a wide variety of restaurants and the cultural centre Nan Shufang. The ethereal camphor forest sets the tone for a peaceful, introspective retreat, where old and new, natural and man-made, coexist in perfect harmony.
