[Summary] Large-scale international airport
Beijing Capital International Airport is the 'Gate of China', a large-scale international airport that is the most important, largest, best-equipped, and busiest in terms of transportation in China. It serves as China's air gateway and an important window for international exchanges. Beijing Capital International Airport was completed in 1958. Over more than 50 years of operation, it has kept forging ahead with the pace of history. Especially since reform and opening-up, with the rapid development of China's economy and the unique advantages in politics, economy, culture, and geographical location of Beijing, the annual passenger throughput of Beijing Capital International Airport has grown from 1.03 million in 1978 to 83.71 million in 2013, ranking second globally.
To meet the growing demand of passengers, Beijing Capital International Airport has undergone three phases with a total of eight large-scale expansions and renovations since 1965. On January 1, 1980, Terminal 1 with an area of 61,580 square meters was officially put into use. On November 1, 1999, Terminal 2, with a terminal area of 336,000 square meters, was fully put into operation. Starting from March 28, 2004, after three years and nine months of hard work, Beijing Capital International Airport completed the construction of Terminal 3, the world's largest single terminal building, with efficient and high-quality 'China Speed'. Subsequently, within less than two months of trial operation, Beijing Capital International Airport organized six large-scale drills involving nearly 10,000 participants, ultimately achieving the successful reception and smooth operation of Terminal 3, earning high praise from peers worldwide. Since then, the hardware resources of Beijing Capital International Airport have been effectively expanded, making it the first and only airport in the Asia-Pacific region with three terminals, three runways, and dual control towers operating simultaneously, stepping into the ranks of world-class mega airports.
As a core hub connecting Europe, Asia, and North America, Beijing Capital International Airport boasts a unique geographical location, convenient and fast transfer processes, and close and efficient collaboration, making it the most convenient aviation hub linking the three major aviation markets of Asia, Europe, and America. Major domestic Chinese airlines including Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, and Hainan Airlines have all established operating bases at Beijing Capital International Airport. The three major global airline alliances—Star Alliance, SkyTeam, and Oneworld—also regard Beijing Capital International Airport as an important transfer hub. With the increasingly comprehensive international route network, Beijing Capital International Airport has become one of the busiest airports in the world, with 92 airlines operating nearly 1,700 flights daily connecting Beijing to 243 airports worldwide. The 'Gate of China' is now marching steadily toward the goal of building itself into a large-scale international hub airport!
Beijing Capital International Airport always prioritizes safety as its highest principle, adhering to the safety policy of 'Safety First, Prevention Focused, Comprehensive Governance, and Continuous Improvement', implementing the concept of continuous safety, continuously improving the safety management system, and fully building a safe airport. Its excellent safety record has passed strict audits by the International Civil Aviation Organization and the Civil Aviation Administration of China, earning the full trust of domestic and foreign airlines and passengers.
Over the years, Beijing Capital International Airport has utilized platforms such as the 'Passenger Service Promotion Committee', 'Safety Management Committee', 'Operation Coordination Management Committee', and 'News Publicity Coordination Committee' to create a national-gate culture of 'Under the same national gate, we are one family', jointly building the 'Service by China' brand. Through the joint efforts of nearly 100 on-site units, passenger satisfaction at Beijing Capital International Airport has improved rapidly. In 2013, the Airports Council International (ACI) satisfaction score reached 4.90, ranking third globally. Notably, in the third and fourth quarters of 2013, the ACI passenger satisfaction score reached 4.93, leaping to second place globally.
Beijing Capital International Airport attaches great importance to its social responsibilities and has published corporate social responsibility reports for three consecutive years. Under the guidance of the sustainable development strategy of 'Leveraging multi-party forces to build a green gateway', it adheres to the concepts of 'energy saving, environmental protection, technology, and humanization' in construction and operation to promote sustainable development. Meanwhile, as an important air gateway and window for international exchanges, the airport's influence on the regional economy is growing. In 2012, its total economic contribution to Beijing reached 135.111 billion yuan, accounting for 7.56% of Beijing's GDP; it brought a total of 695,200 jobs to Beijing, representing 6.73% of the city's total employment.
With the rapid development of China's economy, Beijing Capital International Airport is advancing at an increasingly fast pace. In 2013, it successively received a series of honors including the 'ACI-APEX Project Cooperation Certificate' awarded by the Airports Council International (ACI), the 'Asian Brand 500' awarded by the Asian Brand Association, and the 'China Securities Golden Bauhinia Award – Listed Company with the Highest Sense of Social Responsibility' awarded by Ta Kung Pao (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. and the Beijing Listed Companies Association.
Looking to the future, the 'Gate of China' is forging ahead on the path of 'Promoting Service by China and Building an International Hub', striving to serve Beijing's goal of becoming a 'world city' and China's civil aviation in building a strong aviation nation!
