Wuhan Hankou Hospital (formerly Hankou Railway Hospital) was founded in 1897. It is a comprehensive hospital directly under the Wuhan Municipal Health Bureau, integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, emergency care, preventive healthcare, and rehabilitation services. It is currently a designated hospital for urban employee medical insurance and resident medical insurance in Wuhan, a designated hospital for medical insurance of Wuhan Railway Bureau, a designated hospital for identification of severe and chronic diseases under Wuhan medical insurance, a designated hospital for cadre healthcare under Wuhan Municipal Health Bureau, a designated hospital for the New Rural Cooperative Medical System, a preferential hospital for Wuhan trade union members, a designated hospital for delivery of pregnant and lying-in women among migrant workers, and also an internship and teaching hospital for nursing programs at different levels including undergraduate, junior college, and secondary specialized school in Wuhan medical colleges.
The hospital is located at No. 172 Zhaojiatiao, Jiang'an District, and its East Campus is located at No. 2273 Jiefang Avenue, with a total building area of 41,470 square meters. It currently has 866 employees, including 724 health technical personnel and 274 middle- and senior-level health technical personnel. The hospital has 2 campuses, more than 600 open beds, 32 clinical departments, 22 secondary clinical professional groups, 5 medical technology departments, and nearly 30 expert and specialty outpatient clinics. The hospital possesses a complete range of modern diagnostic and treatment medical instruments and hardware equipment reaching domestic advanced levels, including German Siemens 64-slice CT, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), DR digital radiography system, American 1000mA television remote-controlled multifunctional X-ray machine and digital subtraction system, electronic gastroscope, colonoscope, Doppler ultrasound diagnostic apparatus, hemodialysis machine, blood filtration machine, hyperbaric oxygen chamber, abdominal (thoracic) endoscope, HB-VG extracorporeal shock wave lithotripter, EMS intracorporeal ballistic lithotripter, WOLF prostate electroresection and electrovaporization resectoscope. The hospital has more than 1,200 pieces of equipment valued at over 10,000 yuan each, with a total equipment value of approximately more than 40 million yuan. The hospital-wide networked HIS and other information systems have brought the hospital's digitalization, informatization, and modernization construction to an initial scale.
