Shenzhen Polytechnic was founded in 1993 and is one of the earliest institutions in China to independently offer higher vocational and technical education. Since its establishment, the people of Shenzhen Polytechnic have worked hard, forged ahead, and continuously innovated in educational and teaching concepts, institutional mechanisms, and talent cultivation models, creating many firsts in China's higher vocational education. Relying on the development of the Pearl River Delta industry and upholding the reform and innovation spirit of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, the school insists on taking fostering virtue through education as the fundamental task of school education, and based on the school-running characteristics of industry-education integration in vocational education, has achieved remarkable results in various undertakings and is known as a 'banner' of China's higher vocational education. To closely align with major national strategies such as 'Made in China 2025' and Shenzhen's innovation-driven development strategy, the school proposed the strategic development goals of 'three services, five positions, and one taking the lead' in the work report of its third Party Congress held at the end of 2016, always adhering to serving the Party and the country, serving Shenzhen's economic and social development, and serving students' healthy growth and success, striving to become a pioneer in the innovative development of vocational education, a cradle for compound innovative high-quality technical and skilled talents, a cradle for entrepreneurs, a technology research and development center for small, medium, and micro enterprises in Shenzhen, a lifelong education school for Shenzhen citizens, and an important base for teacher training in China's vocational education, taking the lead in building a world-class vocational college with Chinese characteristics, and contributing the 'Shenzhen Model' to the development of world vocational education. The school currently has five campuses: Liuxiandong, Xili Lake, Guanlong Mountain, OCT, and Phoenix Mountain, with a total campus area of 2.12 million square meters and a school-owned building area of 573,400 square meters, including 107,500 square meters of classrooms, 50,000 square meters of libraries, 33,400 square meters of gymnasiums, and 101,400 square meters of practical training and internship venues. The total value of fixed assets is 2.366 billion yuan, including 958 million yuan of teaching instruments and equipment, and 14,525 teaching computers. The library has 2.612 million paper books, 1.3 million e-books, 605,400 e-journals, 46 Chinese and foreign databases, and 160,700 hours of audio and video. The school adheres to the research orientation of integrating 'industry, academia, research, and application', and attaches importance to technology transfer and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. In recent years, the school has continuously deepened the reform of the scientific research system and mechanism, vigorously strengthened cooperation with government functional departments and industry enterprises, and established three comprehensive research and development platforms: the Applied Technology Research and Development Institute, the Cultural and Creative Product Research and Development Institute, and the Economic and Social Development Research Institute, built 43 research platforms at or above the district and city levels, seized new opportunities for industrial development, and served local economic and social development and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises. The school has undertaken a total of 5,196 scientific research projects at all levels and types, including 84 national-level projects, with 10 new National Natural Science Foundation projects added annually. The total scientific research funding received reached 806 million yuan, of which 298 million yuan was received for technology transfer (horizontal scientific research) projects; 226 academic monographs of various types were published, along with 199 edited, translated, and collected works, and 61 scientific research achievements won ministerial, provincial, and municipal awards; 1,726 national patents were authorized, 1,136 software copyrights were registered, and 345 invention patents were obtained. The school led or participated in the formulation of 74 international, national, and industry standards.
