Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Founded in 1958, the Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIA, CAS) is located in Shenyang, a central city in Northeast Asia and a famous historical and cultural city. Currently, the institute has more than 1,300 employees. Its main research directions include robotics, intelligent manufacturing, and optoelectronic information processing. Over the past six decades, SIA has continuously explored in the field of automation science and engineering, making outstanding contributions to meeting national strategic needs and to national economic and social development. The institute's scientific research achievements have received widespread attention from domestic and foreign leaders and social media. It has been selected twice among the 'Top Ten Scientific and Technological Progresses in China' voted by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and has won more than 300 awards from the state, CAS, various ministries, and local governments. As the cradle of China's robotics industry, it has created more than 20 'firsts' in the history of China's robotics development, leading the research and development of robotics technology in China. The institute hosts multiple national platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of Robotics, the National Engineering Research Center for Robotics, the National Robot Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, the National Robot Testing and Evaluation Center, and the Secretariat of the National Robot Standardization Overall Group, and enjoys excellent conditions for scientific research, experiments, and work. It has fostered more than ten high-tech enterprises, including Siasun, Zhongke Bowei, Siasun Medical, and SIASUN Microelectronics, leaders in China's robotics industry, four of which are listed. Relying on two international cooperation bases, the International Joint Research Center for Advanced Robotics and Mechanism Science and the International Joint Research Center for Industrial Internet of Things Technology, SIA has signed strategic cooperation agreements with research institutions in developed countries and regions, conducting in-depth cooperative research and joint experiments, and achieving fruitful results in both basic and applied research. Through recruitment and training, the institute has built a high-level talent team consisting of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, high-level overseas talents recruited under national programs, recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, experts in national science and technology programs, and recipients of the Excellent Young Scientists Fund. In 2015, SIA was approved to build the CAS Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Manufacturing. In 2018, it established the School of Robotics and Intelligent Manufacturing with the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2019, the institute moved to a new campus of nearly 600 mu in Hunnan New District, Shenyang. With six branches in the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta regions, including in Guangzhou, the institute deeply participates in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. SIA is growing rapidly with sufficient research funding. To build a world-class national research institution, it now recruits talents of various levels in the field of automation worldwide.
