Established in 2006, GAC Automotive Research & Development Center (hereafter referred to as GAC R&D Center) serves as the technology management department and the hub of the R&D system of GAC Group. It is responsible for the planning of new products and new technologies as well as the implementation of major R&D projects, operating relatively independently within its authorized scope. GAC R&D Center has built first-class domestic and internationally advanced R&D facilities, including 15 types of laboratories covering complete vehicles, powertrains, and new energy, a pilot plant with welding, painting, final assembly, and machining, and a dedicated test track for vehicle tuning. It is home to innovation platforms such as the Overseas High-level Talent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base, Postdoctoral Research Station, Academician Workstation, and National Industrial Design Center. With over 3,500 R&D personnel, including dozens of senior experts such as national-level talent and outstanding automotive science and technology professionals in China, it has accumulated 2,600 patent applications (1,680 authorized), with invention patents accounting for about 30%. GAC R&D Center unswervingly adheres to the development of independent brands and continuously increases R&D investment, with cumulative investment reaching 19.4 billion yuan by the end of 2017 and plans to exceed 20 billion yuan during the 13th Five-Year Plan period. In product development, it has always adhered to independent forward development and built the G-CPMA (GAC Cross-Platform Modular Architecture), which won the first prize of China Automobile Industry Science and Technology Progress Award. It possesses relatively complete complete vehicle (including conventional and new energy vehicles) and powertrain development capabilities, with overall levels ranking among the top of independent brands. As of January 2018, 18 complete vehicle products across two major series have been developed and launched, among which star models such as Trumpchi GS8 and GS4 have seen explosive sales growth, becoming "phenomenal" models. In addition, in the field of new energy vehicles, it has mastered development technologies for pure electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid products, with 5 new energy products launched cumulatively. GAC's autonomous vehicles are capable of all-weather, all-road-condition autonomous driving. In terms of technological innovation, it focuses on the breakthroughs of "electrification, intelligent connectivity, lightweighting, and emotionalization," strengthens the "two priorities" (platform development first, technology development first), and strives to implement the "2510" technology innovation strategy. In the field of new energy vehicles, it makes every effort to build two major platforms, striving to achieve five major technological leaderships and four-stage goals, with all models achieving electrification by 2025. In the field of intelligent driving, it aims at industrialization and gradually realizes mass production of intelligent driving technologies, planning to achieve L3-level highway autonomous driving and fully automatic parking by 2020. GAC R&D Center will build a "domestic first-class, internationally advanced" automotive R&D institution, with the ability to compete on par with similar international institutions. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, it will complete the development of 20 to 30 models, covering A0/A/B/C and new energy, supporting GAC's independent brands to achieve the goal of selling 1 million units by 2020, contributing to making GAC Trumpchi a world-class Chinese automotive brand!
