Changsha Fourth Hospital (formerly Changsha Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine) is located at the foot of the scenic Yuelu Mountain and on the bank of the Xiangjiang River. It is a modern tertiary general hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, preventive health care and rehabilitation. It is a designated guidance hospital for "two-way referral" of Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, a medical cooperation hospital of Xiangya Second Hospital, an affiliated hospital of Hunan Normal University, a directly affiliated base for the practical skills examination of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine licensed physicians in Hunan Province, a clinical base for standardized residency training in Hunan Province, and a designated institution for work-related injury appraisal and treatment in Changsha. It is a national demonstration unit for traditional Chinese medicine work in general hospitals, one of the first batch of demonstration bases for creating smoke-free medical and health institutions in Changsha, and has Hunan Province's first smoking cessation clinic. The hospital was founded in 1956 and currently has a medical business building area of 53,800 square meters. In the first half of 2013, the surgical building will be put into use. The completion of this building will greatly improve the hospital's medical environment, with authorized beds reaching 800. With the strong support of the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, our hospital's "Binshui New City Campus" construction project was officially approved in October 2012, and the construction project will be fully launched in 2013, which will become an important milestone in the history of the hospital's development. The new campus covers an area of 230 mu, with 1,500 beds, and is expected to complete all phase I and phase II construction projects in 5 years. After the new campus is completed, it will become a medical service center in Wangcheng District of Changsha and the Daxi Pilot Zone. The hospital has 913 professional and technical personnel, including 2 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, 7 chairmen of provincial and municipal professional committees, 135 senior professional and technical personnel, 118 doctoral and master's students, and 3 master's supervisors. It has 40 clinical specialty departments such as internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics, and 17 medical technology departments. Among them, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a provincial-level clinical key specialty, and the Cardiovascular Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Endocrinology Departments are key disciplines in Changsha. The Changsha Clinical Laboratory Quality Control Center, Changsha Hyperbaric Oxygen Quality Control Center, Changsha Critical Care Medicine Quality Control Center, Changsha Medical Record Quality Control Center, as well as the Changsha Limb Disability Rehabilitation Technical Guidance Center, Changsha Hearing and Speech Disability Rehabilitation Technical Guidance Center, and Changsha Association of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine have successively settled in our hospital. The chairmen of seven professional committees, including Critical Care Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Cardiovascular Interventional Medicine, Ophthalmology, and Digestive Internal Medicine of the Changsha Medical Association, and Emergency Medicine and Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery of the Changsha Association of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, are respectively held by the corresponding discipline leaders of our hospital. The "Practical Clinical Examination Normal Values and Result Analysis" and "Practical Rehabilitation Therapy Technology" compiled by the organization were published by the Science and Technology Literature Press and distributed nationwide. The hospital took the lead in carrying out interventional therapy, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, and urology minimally invasive surgery among municipal hospitals.
