中国建筑防水协会于1984年经国家建筑材料工业局批准，在国家民政部登记成立，由从事建筑防水材料生产、科研、设计、施工等相关行业的企事业单位、院校和社会团体以及有关人士自愿结成的全国性、行业性、非营利性的社会组织。
我会2021年、2015年被中华人民共和国民政部评为“5A级全国性社会组织”，2015年荣获“全国先进社会组织”称号。自2014年连续六年被中国建筑材料联合会评为先进集体，及获得多项推进产业政策工作先进行业协会等荣誉称号。
本协会接受登记管理机关中华人民共和国民政部和党建领导机关社会工作部的业务指导和监督管理。
