四川饭店是朱德、陈毅等老帅提议，经周恩来总理批准并亲自定名创办的。店名由郭沫若先生手写。饭店于一九五九年十月一日在北京正式营业。五、六十年代的中共中央和国家领导人，除毛泽东主席，刘少奇主席未到过四川饭店，其他领导人都曾到此驻足。四川饭店接待过数以百计的世界各国政要，包括美国总统、西班牙国王、澳大利亚总理、加拿大总理、英国首相……。几十年来，众多的社会名流和工商界人士都把四川饭店作为聚会、宴请的理想场所。
