Hubei Open Vocational College

Hubei Open Vocational College is a full-time regular institution of higher education with higher academic education qualifications, established with the approval of the Hubei Provincial People's Government and filed with the Ministry of Education of China. The college is located on the shore of Wuhan East Lake, in the heart of the "China Optics Valley" in the Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone, with very convenient transportation. The college has formed a "one college, two campuses" layout. The East Lake Campus, a fifteen-minute drive from the main campus, has a beautiful environment and is fertile ground for cultivating modern talent, an ideal place for study, employment, and entrepreneurship. The industry-university-research and agriculture-science-education base invested and built by our college in Xinguang Village, Baoxie Town, under the jurisdiction of the East Lake High-tech Development Zone, covers an area of over a thousand mu, providing a platform for our students to combine study and work, internship training, and employment. In 2009, our college was incorporated into the talent cultivation system of the Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone, cultivating 2,000 skilled talents for the zone each year. Over the 41 years since its founding, the college has adhered to the educational philosophy of "cultivating virtue and fostering talent, universal love and integrity, mastering skills and strengthening abilities, pioneering and innovating." Based in Hubei and oriented toward the whole country, it has always upheld the school-running purpose of "seeking survival and reputation through quality; seeking development and perfection through characteristics; seeking efficiency and improvement through management." It fully implements the spirit of the "Several Opinions of the Ministry of Education on Comprehensively Improving the Teaching Quality of Higher Vocational Education," adheres to employment orientation, takes demand as its mission, and in running the school seeks characteristics rather than completeness, and excellence rather than size. It adheres to the school-running direction of "school-enterprise cooperation and work-study integration, setting majors oriented to the market, setting courses oriented to positions, and strengthening skills oriented to employment," takes the cultivation of application abilities as the core, and focuses on cultivating high-skilled talents for the front lines of production, construction, management, and service. With the goal of cultivating talents with "solid foundations, broad scope, high quality, and strong abilities," it has carried out all-round exploration and reform of the education and teaching process, forming distinctive characteristics and advantages and winning widespread praise from all sectors of society. By the end of 2006, the college had successfully passed the Ministry of Education's level assessment of talent cultivation work in higher vocational and technical colleges. The college mainly focuses on full-time junior college education and has formed a talent cultivation system including regular higher education, adult higher education, continuing education, and Sino-foreign cooperative education. The college has nine secondary schools, including the School of Humanities, the School of Modern Management, the School of Finance and Economics, the School of Optoelectronic Information, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Laser, the School of Industrial Design, the School of Art, and the School of Continuing Education, offering about 30 majors in six major categories: science, engineering, humanities, economics, management, and foreign languages. Majors such as Industrial Robot Technology, Intelligent Control Technology, New Energy Vehicle Technology, Online Marketing and Livestreaming, and Smart Health and Elderly Care have been listed as pilot majors for the college's education reform. Adhering to the purpose of open schooling, the college attaches great importance to intercollegiate and international exchanges and cooperation. It has successively established cooperative and exchange relationships with Ohio University in the United States, First Nations University of Canada, Bangkok University, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, the Open University in the United Kingdom, FernUniversität in Hagen in Germany, the Open University of Hong Kong, and National Open University in Taiwan; it has jointly run schools with Wuhan University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, and other universities inside and outside the province to carry out education for upgrading from junior college to bachelor's degree and from bachelor's degree to a higher level; and it has jointly established the Hubei Open Vocational College Xuri International Chinese Language Education Center with the Hong Kong Xuri Education Foundation to carry out Chinese language education for foreigners. The college has a campus network teaching and administrative management system, multimedia teaching system, FM foreign language radio station, electronic reading room, language lab, electronic and electrical engineering laboratory, communication laboratory, e-commerce laboratory, computerized accounting laboratory, microcontroller application technology laboratory, modern office automation laboratory, computer assembly and maintenance laboratory, logistics management laboratory, computer network laboratory, engineering cost training room, computer software laboratory, and metalworking training base. In order to provide a platform for internship training and work-study for students in majors such as humanities, economics, and management, the college has created the "Kaiyuan Mall" online platform featuring services to society, providing various types of services to society in an all-round way.
