武汉市规划研究院成立于1979年，至2011年底在职职工351人，是国家首批审定的甲级规划院之一，现有城市规划编制甲级、土地利用规划编制甲级、建筑行业建筑工程甲级、工程咨询甲级、市政公用行业（道路、排水）乙级资质证书，主要承担城市总体规划、分区规划、详细规划、市政规划、风景区规划、土地利用规划、环境景观建设规划、建筑与城市设计、市政设计、大型重点项目的选址定点和可行性研究、工程咨询等，是武汉市城市规划设计与研究的主要力量，是华中地区极具实力的规划设计单位之一。
