China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corp., Ltd. (abbreviated as China Construction Eighth Engineering Division) is a large state-owned backbone construction enterprise affiliated to China State Construction Engineering Corporation, a Fortune Global 500 company. Founded in 1952, the enterprise has undergone a process of transitioning from construction to military and back to construction. In 1966, it was reorganized into a capital construction engineering corps upon orders from the Central Military Commission and the State Council. In 1978, it was converted into the 22nd detachment. In 1983, it was collectively reorganized into China Construction Eighth Engineering Division. In 2007, it was restructured into its current form, with its headquarters located in Pudong, Shanghai.
Currently, the enterprise holds qualifications of "Three Special-Class and Three Grade-A": Special-Class General Contracting for Building Construction, Special-Class General Contracting for Municipal Engineering, and Special-Class General Contracting for Highway Engineering, as well as Grade-A qualifications for Building Engineering Design, Highway Engineering Design, and Municipal Engineering Design.
The predecessor of China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Shanghai Branch was China Construction Corporation Shanghai Branch, a wholly-owned direct subsidiary of China Construction Corporation. Since January 1, 2012, it has been placed under China Construction Eighth Engineering Division. Inheriting all Special-Class General Contracting and professional qualifications from China Construction Corporation, and leveraging its advantages in quality, brand, talent, and core technologies, the Shanghai Branch has undertaken a number of outstanding and influential projects in Shanghai and surrounding areas, such as the Shanghai World Financial Center, the Grand Gateway 66, the 21st Century Center Tower, the Poly Grand Theater, and the CNOOC Tower. It has also won the highest quality award in Shanghai's construction industry, the "Magnolia" Award, multiple times, as well as other top professional honors in the city.
