BASF is actively constructing its new integrated base in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province. The base was announced in July 2018 and officially launched in November 2019. With a total investment expected to range from €8 billion to €10 billion, it is being built and operated independently by BASF. Once completed, it will become BASF's third-largest integrated production base worldwide, after Ludwigshafen and Antwerp.
The new integrated base will include a steam cracker with an annual ethylene capacity of 1 million tons, as well as several downstream production plants for consumer markets. By adopting cutting-edge technology, fully implementing the concept of smart production, and adhering to safety standards, the base will become a model of intelligent and sustainable production.
The BASF Zhanjiang integrated base will be constructed in phases. The first batch of plants is planned to start operations in 2022 and 2023, mainly producing engineering plastics and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to meet customer demand in various growth industries in South China and the entire Asian market. The entire base is expected to be completed by 2030.
