应急总医院是一所集医疗、教学、科研、预防为一体的三级综合医院，承担国家应急医学中心建设重任,是应急管理部直属事业单位，北京市首批医疗保险定点医院、北京市涉外医疗医院、中国协和医科大学教学医院和亚洲国际紧急救援中心国际救援定点合作医院。主要承担应急医学救援、国际医疗救援、医学研究和人才培养等职责，开展急诊急救、康复医疗、基本医疗服务等工作，是国家应急医学研究中心和救援基地。医院现有编制床位515张，设有38个临床科室及32个诊断和治疗专业。拥有高级职称医务人员172人，其中知名专家53人，博士学位72名，硕士学位154名。
