Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as DSIC) is affiliated to China Shipbuilding Industry Group, and is a world-renowned shipbuilding enterprise. It provides customers with whole-life-cycle services from product R&D, design, and construction to maintenance, conversion, and green dismantling. It is also an equipment manufacturing enterprise group integrating five major business segments: military ships, civil ships, offshore engineering equipment, repair/dismantling, and heavy industry.
DSIC has three major new shipbuilding main plants: the First Works, the Second Works, and the Third Works, as well as specialized industrial bases such as the Shanhaiguan Ship Repair and Building Base, the Dalian Bay Offshore Engineering Construction Base, the Changxing Island Repair/Dismantling Base, the Sanshilipu Equipment Manufacturing Base, the Xianglujiao Bay Fishing Vessel Construction Base, and the Changxing Island Engineering Ship Construction Base. It also possesses specialized supporting facilities for steel processing, rudder and shaft processing, hatch cover fabrication, outfitting parts fabrication, marine cranes, deck machinery, and explosive processing, with total assets of approximately RMB 110 billion.
DSIC has a national-level enterprise technology center, with a team of over 1,100 R&D and design personnel led by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chinese ship design masters. They have successively developed internationally advanced ship and offshore engineering products including 6 generations and 8 types of VLCCs, 10,000-20,000 TEU large container ships, and 300-400 foot self-elevating drilling platforms. DSIC undertakes numerous major scientific research projects from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Science and Technology each year.
DSIC is the shipyard that has built the largest number of naval vessels for the Chinese Navy, successfully constructing and delivering China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, and currently undertaking construction tasks for multiple major military projects. It is the most important partner and naval shipbuilding base of the Chinese Navy.
DSIC has strong capabilities in civil shipbuilding, capable of undertaking the design and construction of various types and tonnages of ships, including very large bulk carriers, 300,000-ton class ultra-large crude carriers (VLCCs), container ships above 10,000 TEU, large LNG carriers, and high-tech ocean fishing vessels. Since the 11th Five-Year Plan, DSIC has cumulatively delivered over 350 high-performance civil ships to shipowners worldwide. The 300,000-ton class VLCCs built by DSIC account for more than 10% of the same type of vessels in the world fleet.
DSIC is one of the Chinese enterprises with the most complete product range and the strongest capabilities in constructing offshore engineering equipment. It can build various types of offshore engineering equipment, including large self-elevating drilling platforms, semi-submersible drilling platforms, floating production units, drilling ships, and offshore engineering support vessels. The self-developed 300-400 foot self-elevating drilling platforms and self-elevating living service platforms have achieved industrialization and serialization.
Relying on its traditional advantages, DSIC innovates a new model of green circular economy. The jointly-invested Dalian Changxing Island "Ship Conversion and Green Dismantling" base has been put into operation. It is the world's first enterprise to implement green ship dismantling operations in accordance with the latest international specifications, forming a parallel development of ship conversion and repair, offshore topside module construction, and ship dismantling industries.
DSIC develops heavy industry with energy equipment and petrochemical equipment as the two major non-ship industry directions. In recent years, DSIC has successfully entered the nuclear power industry, obtaining the license for constructing civil nuclear steel containment vessels and equipment (modules). It has also achieved scale in self-owned intellectual property single-point mooring projects and self-branded offshore supporting winches, and elevated the technology of drilling platform leg construction, enhancing the scale and level of the offshore oil supporting industry.
During the 11th and 12th Five-Year Plan periods, DSIC achieved leapfrog development in economic scale and shipbuilding capacity, with major economic indicators maintaining a growth rate of over 20% for 8 consecutive years, and the total economic output exceeding RMB 28 billion by 2012. It is the first Chinese shipbuilding enterprise with both total industrial output and sales revenue exceeding 20 billion, entering the top 5 in world shipbuilding. Since 2013, despite the downturn in the shipbuilding market, it has still achieved stable development.
During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, DSIC will follow the strategic goal of "an innovative enterprise with military-civilian integration, military-oriented, leading technology, and integrated industry and finance" of CSIC, and strive to develop into an innovation-driven enterprise with all five business segments flourishing, being world-leading and first-class in shipbuilding.
