Its predecessor was the Beijing Gas and Heating Company founded in August 1958, and in January 1974 it was restructured into the Beijing Heating Company. Beijing District Heating Group Co., Ltd. is a large municipal enterprise group with 13 functional departments, 6 functional centers, 7 branch companies (Dongcheng Branch, Xicheng Branch, Chaoyang Branch, Chaoyang Second Branch, Haidian Branch, Fengtai Branch, and Transmission and Distribution Branch), and 11 secondary subsidiaries. It is a vital infrastructure industry of the capital, responsible for the production, transmission, distribution, operation, and management of heat energy from 8 large thermal power plants, 3 peak-shaving gas heating plants, and 12 self-operated heating plants across the city. It also supplies heating, domestic hot water, and partial industrial heat to public buildings such as the Party Central Committee, the State Council, troops stationed in Beijing, foreign embassies, national ministries, Beijing municipal government offices, large hotels and restaurants, as well as residential buildings.
