Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences

Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences was founded in 1957 and is headquartered at No. 1 Nanhu Yaoyuan, Wuchang District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. As a provincial comprehensive agricultural research institution in Hubei Province, the academy plays an important role in promoting agricultural science and technology progress in Hubei, ensuring food security, and promoting sustainable agricultural development.
In terms of research layout, the academy has multiple specialized research institutes, including those for food crops, cash crops, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, fruit trees and tea, agricultural product processing and nuclear agricultural technology, and agricultural economics and science and technology information. The Food Crops Research Institute is dedicated to variety breeding and cultivation technology research for major food crops such as rice, wheat, and corn. By combining traditional breeding with modern biotechnology, it has successfully bred a series of new food crop varieties with high yield, high quality, and stress resistance, such as "Ezhong No. 5" rice and "Xiangmai 25" wheat. These varieties have been widely promoted and planted in Hubei and surrounding areas, effectively improving grain yield and quality. The Cash Crops Research Institute focuses on cash crops such as cotton, rapeseed, and vegetables, conducting research on variety improvement, efficient cultivation, and pest and disease control. Its newly developed cotton varieties feature excellent fiber quality and high yield, while its new rapeseed varieties have high oil content and strong disease resistance, providing strong support for the development of Hubei's characteristic agriculture.
The Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine has achieved fruitful results in livestock and poultry genetic breeding, disease prevention and control, and healthy breeding. The new livestock and poultry varieties bred perform excellently in growth speed and meat quality, while the disease diagnostic techniques and prevention and control measures developed have effectively ensured the healthy development of Hubei's animal husbandry. The Institute of Fruit Trees and Tea, targeting Hubei's geographical and climatic characteristics, conducts variety breeding and cultivation technology research on characteristic fruits and tea such as citrus and tea, improving the yield and quality of fruits and tea and promoting the development of Hubei's fruit and tea industry.
The Institute of Agricultural Product Processing and Nuclear Agricultural Technology is dedicated to research on deep processing technology of agricultural products and the application of nuclear technology in agriculture. The new processing techniques and products developed have extended the agricultural industry chain and increased the added value of agricultural products. Nuclear agricultural technology has played a unique role in crop mutation breeding and agricultural product preservation. The Institute of Agricultural Economics and Science and Technology Information provides scientific basis for government decision-making, conducts research on agricultural industry development planning and agricultural science and technology policy, and builds agricultural science and technology information service platforms to provide farmers and enterprises with timely and accurate agricultural science and technology information and market trends.
