National Institute of Metrology, China. Founded in 1955, the National Institute of Metrology (NIM) is affiliated with the State Administration for Market Regulation. It is a public welfare scientific research institution, the highest metrological scientific research center in China, and the highest legal metrology technical institution. Its main tasks are as follows: Establish, maintain, and improve national metrological standards (including reference materials); conduct international comparisons to ensure consistency of reference values with international standards; carry out original research in metrological science and technology, as well as research on metrological standards and measurement techniques in new fields; conduct continuous research on metrological standards to expand their measurement ranges/frequency bands and improve accuracy and automation; research measurement theory and methods of quantity dissemination, as well as research on common, fundamental, and critical measurement technologies; implement quantity dissemination and traceability to ensure the uniformity of measurements nationwide; undertake legal metrology, quality certification, and laboratory evaluation technical work commissioned by relevant national authorities.
