On December 28, 2002, the Capital Airports Holding Company was jointly established by the former Beijing Capital Airports Group, Beijing Capital International Airport Co., Ltd., Tianjin Binhai International Airport, China Civil Aviation Airport Construction Corporation, Jinfei Civil Aviation Economic Development Co., Ltd., and China Civil Aviation Engineering Consulting Company.
Beijing Capital International Airport, abbreviated as Capital Airport, is the main international airport of Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China. Located northeast of downtown Beijing, in a piece of Chaoyang District that is an exclave within Shunyi District, it is 25.35 kilometers from Tiananmen Square. It is a large international aviation hub with the most important geographical position, the largest scale, the most complete facilities, and the busiest transportation operations in China. Capital Airport is not only the aerial gateway and window for foreign exchanges of Beijing, but also the most important aviation hub of China's civil aviation, serving as the radiation center of the country's civil aviation network. It is currently the busiest civil airport in China and the base airport for Air China.
