河北省话剧团是于1953年4月在河北省文工团的基础上建立起来的。1960年改建为话剧院。建院五十年来，始终坚持党的文艺方针路线，坚持从群众中来到群众中去，坚持深入生活，为人民服务，逐步形成了朴实自然、富有浓郁乡土气息和地方色彩的风格特色。值得庆贺的是，剧院曾先后有三出话剧进入北京中南海怀仁堂，为中央领导同志演出。1959年《红旗谱》演出后受到朱德委员长等领导同志的接见；1965年《战洪图》演出后受到刘少奇主席等领导同志的接见；1984年《八九雁来》演出后受到胡乔木等领导同志的接见。
