Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences

In 2003, after the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) epidemic, the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences (abbreviated as "GIBH") was born under the joint construction of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guangdong Province, and Guangzhou City, and was officially established in March 2006.

GIBH, oriented towards human health and the "Healthy China" strategy, focuses on frontier major scientific issues in the life and health field and important disease mechanisms. With the goal of becoming a world-class new-type research and development institution in the biomedicine and health field and a highland for cultivating innovative talents, and with the mission of providing original basic theories, breakthrough frontier technologies, and systematic solutions for safeguarding human health and disease prevention and control, optimizing the mechanisms and pathways for rapid transformation of scientific and technological achievements, meeting national strategic needs and regional economic and social development, promoting the development of the biomedical industry, and playing a core role as a national strategic scientific and technological force.
