This company is a joint-stock company established with the approval of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, jointly funded and initiated by China Water Resources and Hydropower Construction Group Corporation and China Hydropower Engineering Consulting Group Corporation. At the time of establishment, China Water Resources and Hydropower Group, as the main sponsor, contributed its operating assets related to engineering contracting, power investment and operation, equipment manufacturing and leasing, and real estate development, including the equity and interests of its subsidiaries and related liabilities, as capital contribution to the company, while China Hydropower Engineering Consulting Group contributed in cash.
On October 18, 2011, the company was officially listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, with an initial public offering of 3,000,000,000 shares.
On January 2, 2014, the company name was changed from China Water Resources and Hydropower Construction Co., Ltd. to PowerChina Joint-stock Co., Ltd. The English name of the company was changed from Sinohydro Group Ltd. to PowerConstructionCorporationofChina, Ltd.
