PowerChina Group Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as: PowerChina) is a wholly state-owned company established with the approval of the State Council at the end of 2011, based on the integration of China Water Resources and Hydropower Construction Group Corporation, China Hydropower Engineering Consulting Group Corporation, and the power survey and design, engineering, and equipment manufacturing enterprises affiliated with State Grid Corporation and China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. in 14 provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions).
PowerChina is a comprehensive construction group integrating investment and financing, planning and design, engineering construction, equipment manufacturing, and operation management for water conservancy and hydropower projects and infrastructure. Its main business includes construction engineering (including survey, planning, design, and engineering contracting), power and water conservancy (water affairs) and other resource development and operation, real estate development and operation, and related equipment manufacturing and leasing. In addition, entrusted by relevant national ministries, it undertakes the planning and review functions for national hydropower, wind power, solar and other clean and new energy. The Group's power construction (planning, design, construction, etc.) capability and performance rank first in the global industry.
As of the end of 2015, it has 5 national-level R&D institutions, 47 provincial-level R&D institutions, 7 academician workstations, 6 post-doctoral workstations, 56 enterprises and their subsidiaries recognized as provincial high-tech enterprises, and 4 enterprises recognized as key high-tech enterprises under the Torch Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology; it has won 101 national awards and 1277 provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards, holding 3,913 patents (including 389 invention patents).
