China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd. was established on December 27, 2007. Its predecessors, the Second Research and Design Institute of Nuclear Industry, the Fifth Research and Design Institute of Nuclear Industry, and the Fourth Research and Design Institute of Nuclear Industry, were the earliest comprehensive design institutes in China engaged in nuclear engineering design. They are the birthplace of China's nuclear power and nuclear fuel element engineering research and design, having completed the research and design tasks for China's first large production reactor, as well as a series of nuclear research bases, nuclear submarine research and experiment bases, dual-purpose reactors for production and power generation, nuclear fuel element plants, and nuclear fuel reprocessing plants, making outstanding contributions to the successful development of China's "two bombs and one submarine" and the advancement of the cause.
CNPE is the first engineering company in China to possess research and design capabilities in nuclear power, nuclear chemical engineering, and nuclear fuel simultaneously, and has the most complete professional staffing. It holds Grade A qualifications for comprehensive engineering design in the nuclear industry (covering all 21 fields), among a total of 8 Grade A qualifications. Its main business covers nuclear engineering, nuclear power, nuclear chemical engineering, nuclear fuel production lines, nuclear technical services, civil construction, and other new energy development, as well as research and design and general contracting for the nuclear environmental protection industry, spanning pre-project planning for nuclear power, feasibility studies, project consultation, environmental assessment, engineering design, equipment procurement, construction management, commissioning implementation and management, technical services, and personnel training.
CNPE is the first unit in China to achieve independent research and design of commercial reactors, the first to complete research and design of million-kilowatt-class nuclear power plants, and the first to own complete independent intellectual property rights for million-kilowatt-class nuclear power plants. As a backbone force in the development of China's nuclear energy industry, its independently developed Hualong One nuclear power technology has been successfully implemented in Fuqing and exported to Pakistan, with projects progressing smoothly both domestically and internationally.
As of now, the company has 6,056 employees. In long-term research and design and engineering construction practice, the company has 2 academicians, 2 national design masters, 4 China Nuclear Industry Survey and Design Masters, 2 chief experts of the group company, 4 technological leaders of the group, 13 leaders for model development (two posts) of the group, 11 company-level chief experts, 23 recipients of special government allowances from the State Council, and over 700 registered personnel with professional qualifications. Among the employees: 102 hold doctoral degrees, 2,118 hold master's degrees, and 3,200 hold bachelor's degrees, with those holding bachelor's degrees or above accounting for 89.5%; 406 have senior professional titles (at the level of professor), 1,829 have associate senior professional titles, and 1,801 have intermediate professional titles, with those holding intermediate or above titles accounting for 66.7%.
