COSCO Shipping (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Guangzhou COSCO Shipping) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China COSCO Shipping Group Co., Ltd., a large state-owned backbone enterprise. On July 1, 1997, in accordance with the decision of the State Council, China Shipping (Group) Corporation was established on the basis of large state-owned transportation enterprise groups such as Shanghai Shipping, Guangzhou Shipping, and Dalian Shipping, with its headquarters in Shanghai. Guangzhou Shipping (Group) Co., Ltd. became an important member of China Shipping Group. On February 18, 2016, China Shipping and COSCO, two major groups, were integrated and reorganized to form China COSCO Shipping Group Co., Ltd. On June 28 of the same year, the company was renamed COSCO Shipping (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd., becoming an important part of the new group's "6+1" industrial cluster.
