湖南省生命科学研究院有限公司是在湖南省人民政府的支持下由美国华盛顿大学、杜克大学、哈佛大学及中南大学等多名科学家发起成立，袁隆平院士担任名誉院长，并在中南大学湘雅二医院成立了生物治疗中心，建立了前沿的干细胞及肿瘤免疫治疗研究体系。湖南省卫健委于2019年7月3日正式批准湖南省生命科学研究院有限公司开展组织细胞、干细胞及免疫细胞的储存（湘卫函（2019）317 号）。
研究院率先在湖南省多家三甲医院开展了细胞治疗技术研究以及生物样本的采集和保存。湖南省生命科学研究院视每一个生命为一个充满潜力的机会。研究院为多家临床单位和科研机构提供干细胞及配型服务，致力于推进干细胞的临床研究和应用。
