Hunan Agricultural University is rooted in the development needs of Hunan's 'three rural issues' (agriculture, rural areas, and farmers), focusing on three advantageous disciplines: 'Crop Science, Veterinary Medicine, and Horticulture.' It offers first-class undergraduate programs such as Agronomy, Animal Medicine, and Tea Science. It has established the 'State Key Laboratory of Hybrid Rice' and the 'National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Comprehensive Utilization of Citrus Resources,' achieving multiple results in fields such as super hybrid rice and healthy pig farming, helping Hunan build a 'hundred-billion-level agricultural industry chain.'
Practical teaching features the 'Science and Technology Special Commissioner' system, jointly building 'Industry-University-Research Cooperation Bases' with enterprises such as Longping High-Tech and Tangrenshen Group, implementing 'Field Classroom' and 'Enterprise-Proposed Topics' teaching. Students have repeatedly achieved excellent results in the National College Student Plant Protection Professional Ability Competition and the Animal Science Professional Skills Competition. The university has also established the 'Rural Revitalization Training College,' carrying out projects such as 'New Professional Farmer Training' and 'Agricultural Manager Certification,' training over ten thousand person-times annually.
In terms of international exchange, the university collaborates with Cornell University in the United States and Kagoshima University in Japan, conducting 'Joint Research on Crop Genetic Breeding' and 'Agricultural Product Processing Technology Transfer Projects,' and hosts the 'China-Africa Agricultural Cooperation and Development Seminar.' Over 70% of graduates are employed in agricultural research institutes and leading enterprises, with some alumni becoming 'National Top Ten Farmers' and 'National Outstanding Leaders in Rural Entrepreneurship and Innovation.'
