CRRC Qishuyan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "CRRC Qishuyan Institute") was founded in 1959. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of CRRC Corporation Limited and a professional research institution for new materials and manufacturing technology of rail transit equipment in China, as well as a high-tech enterprise. The company is located in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, in the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone. CRRC Qishuyan Institute covers an area of nearly 800,000 square meters and is equipped with more than 2,000 sets of advanced equipment. Currently, it has formed major industrial sectors including key components for rail transit equipment, gear transmission systems, engineering machinery, automotive parts, and oil extraction machine parts. In 2016, the company achieved sales revenue exceeding 5.3 billion yuan. Relying on the comprehensive advantages of multi-disciplinary technology integration and development, CRRC Qishuyan Institute has rapidly enhanced its independent innovation capability. As of the end of 2015, the company had achieved 621 scientific research results, of which 213 were at the national, provincial, or ministerial level or above; formulated and revised 626 standards, including 12 national standards and 614 industry standards; and owned 716 patents, including 127 invention patents. The development and application of a series of new technologies and new products have provided strong technical and product support for the development of China's rail transit equipment. The gear transmission systems developed by the company have been successfully applied to the CRH380A EMU, which operates at the highest speed and contains the highest technology content in the world, the world's most powerful 6-axle 9600 kW AC drive electric locomotive, the Harmon 5 high-power diesel locomotive, and various types of urban rail transit vehicles. The gear transmission system for CRH6 intercity EMUs, independently developed by the company, has been applied to China's first intercity EMU. The coupler buffer devices and foundation brake devices developed by the company have been successfully applied to EMUs of various speed levels. The mobile rail welding vehicles developed have been widely used in the laying of rails on high-speed railways such as Beijing-Tianjin, Wuhan-Guangzhou, Zhengzhou-Xi'an, and Beijing-Shanghai, completely replacing imported equipment.
