The Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University, developed from the first maternity and children's hospital in Shanghai—Ximen Women's and Children's Hospital—was founded with donations from American Margaret Williamson in 1884. The hospital has multiple clinical departments, including Gynecology, Obstetrics, Family Planning, Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Neonatology, Cervical Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and Breast Department, as well as several specialized diagnosis and treatment centers such as the Shanghai Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Menstrual Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, Shanghai Female Reproductive Endocrine Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and Shanghai Ji'ai Genetics and Infertility Diagnosis and Treatment Center. In recent years, it has successively become a standard-setting unit for the Ministry of Health's Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, a training base for the Ministry of Health's Endoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment Technology, the Shanghai Gynecological Clinical Quality Control Center, and the Shanghai Birth Defect Primary Prevention Guidance Center. It has been selected as a national key discipline and a Shanghai key discipline, and is a unit for the National Excellent Courses and the 211 Project key discipline construction; it undertakes major projects such as the 985 project and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In 2010, both Gynecology and Obstetrics were selected for the National Clinical Key Specialty Construction Project. The hospital has become one of the first batch of bases for the "Shanghai Three-Year Standardized Residency Training" and has been approved for the construction of the Shanghai Key Laboratory for Reproductive Endocrine-Related Diseases.
