Sicomines Mining Co., Ltd. is an international mining company jointly established by the Chinese enterprise group composed of China Railway Group and PowerChina, along with Gécamines (the Congolese Mining Corporation), in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, based on the "Resource-for-Infrastructure Framework Cooperation Model". The company has a registered capital of USD 100 million. Currently, China Railway Group holds 41.72% of shares, PowerChina holds 25.28%, Zhejiang Huayou holds 1%, Gécamines holds 20%, and the Congolese Real Estate Corporation holds 12%. Sicomines is dedicated to mineral exploration, prospecting, research, development, production, and the purification, chemical metallurgical treatment, processing, and trading of minerals and their derivatives. The company is currently investing in, developing, constructing, and operating the SICOMINES copper-cobalt mine project. The first phase commenced commercial production in October 2015, processing 4.55 million tons of ore annually, with an annual copper metal production of 125,000 tons. In August 2019, Sicomines officially launched the second phase of the mine construction project, with production planned for July 2021. Once fully operational, the total annual mining and processing capacity will reach 9.1 million tons, yielding 253,500 tons of cathode copper and 5,180 tons of cobalt contained in crude cobalt hydroxide.
