In the summer of 1974, Academician Xia Jiahui took the lead in establishing a "Genetic Counseling Clinic" in China, providing medical services such as diagnosis and prenatal diagnosis of genetic diseases. From 1978 to 1985, it was successively approved by the State Council as a master's and doctoral degree-granting discipline in medical genetics and clinical genetics, as well as a postdoctoral mobile station. In 1984, approved by the Ministry of Health and funded by a World Bank loan, the "National Training Center for Medical Cytogenetics" was established. In 1987, the "Hunan-China Genetic Medicine Center" was established. In 1991, approved by the State Planning Commission, the "State Key Laboratory of Medical Genetics of China" was established. In 2002, approved by the Ministry of Education, the "National Life Science and Technology Talent Training Base—Gene Science and Technology Industrialization Point" was established. From 1980 to the present, the "National Cytogenetics Prenatal Diagnosis Training Class" has been held for a long time, training more than 1,100 students in total. In order to meet the growing needs of patients with genetic diseases and promptly apply high-tech to clinical services for the public, in 2011, approved by the Hunan Provincial Department of Health, "Hunan Jiahui Genetic Specialized Hospital" was established, providing genetic counseling services for various genetic diseases and diagnostic and prenatal diagnostic services for various chromosomal and genetic diseases, so as to prevent the generational transmission and spread of various genetic diseases in the population.
