Guangzhou Power Supply

The history of electricity in Guangzhou dates back to 1888, making it the second city in China, after Shanghai, to use electric power. The Guangzhou Power Grid is one of the earliest regional power grids in China, located in the middle of the Guangdong 500 kV main ring network. It is the receiving-end load center of the China Southern Power Grid's AC/DC hybrid operation and the West-to-East Power Transmission, and is also one of the urban power grids with the highest power supply load density in the country. As of the end of May 2018, it had 335 substations of 110 kV and above, a main transformer capacity of 80.4765 million kVA, transmission lines totaling 7,413.11 kilometers, a power supply area of 7,434 square kilometers, and 5.83 million power supply customers. From January to May 2018, the power supply of the Guangzhou Power Grid was 31.424 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 9.84%; the total social electricity consumption was 34.392 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 9.49%.

Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau is mainly engaged in the investment, construction, and operation of the Guangzhou Power Grid, responsible for the power supply and services of 11 districts in Guangzhou. In 2012, Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau was separated from the former Guangdong Power Grid Company, becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Southern Power Grid Company, and was renamed Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau Co., Ltd. (referred to as Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau), officially listed on February 22 of that year. Currently, it has 17 functional departments, 15 business support and implementation institutions, 17 directly affiliated institutions including 11 district power supply bureaus, 2 subsidiaries (Guangzhou Suinengtong Integrated Energy Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Electric Power Design Institute), 3 collective enterprises (Southern Investment Group, Supervision Company, Junsheng Company), and 2 holding and participating companies (Guangzhou Knowledge City Power Distribution Company, Xinlian Company). The total assets are approximately 51.7 billion yuan, with 10,515 employees. In recent years, Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau has adhered to the goal of achieving a world-class level, continuously improving power supply guarantee capabilities and customer service levels. Its power supply reliability has ranked among the top ten prefecture-level power supply enterprises nationwide for nine consecutive years, and its customer satisfaction with power supply services has ranked first in Guangzhou's social opinion surveys for 17 consecutive years. According to the target plan, in 2018, Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau will take the lead in reaching the world-class level within the China Southern Power Grid and build a comprehensive benchmark for provincial-level power grids. By 2020, it will fully achieve the world-class level, build a safe, reliable, green, and efficient smart grid, and achieve an average annual power outage time of no more than 50 minutes for customers in the entire city, no more than 30 minutes in the central urban area, and no more than 2.5 minutes for customers in high-reliability demonstration areas.
