Shanghai Tunnel Institute

Shanghai Municipal Tunnel Engineering and Rail Transit Design and Research Institute (abbreviated as Shanghai Tunnel Institute) is a national Class A design, consulting, survey, and supervision unit specializing in municipal public works such as tunnels and urban rail transit, highway engineering, building engineering, and geotechnical engineering including survey and measurement, and it also holds foreign business operation rights. It is the design institute with the longest history in soft soil tunnel and underground engineering design and research in China, and one of the few brand enterprises in China undertaking overall urban rail transit design and research, as well as whole-process survey, design, and consulting. It is one of the five consulting units approved by the competent department of the National Development and Reform Commission to undertake evaluation of national urban rail transit projects. Currently, it is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanghai Shentong Metro Group Co., Ltd., which is under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Shanghai Municipality.
