National University of Defense Technology

The University of Science and Technology is a comprehensive research-oriented institution of higher education directly affiliated with the Central Military Commission. In 1959, it was designated as one of the 20 key universities nationwide, and was among the first batch of institutions authorized by the State Council to confer master's and doctoral degrees. It is also one of the first 22 universities to pilot graduate schools nationwide, and has successively been included in the national "211 Project," "985 Project," and the "Double First-Class" construction plan. The university hosts 14 key national laboratories, 66 undergraduate programs, 30 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 26 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 5 national Double First-Class construction disciplines, 75 first-class undergraduate courses, approximately 400 selected candidates for national talent programs, about 200 national teaching masters and outstanding teachers, and 10 national innovation teams. It has cultivated 79 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and over 700 military or provincial/ministerial-level leading cadres. The renowned Tianhe series supercomputers, maglev trains, manned spaceflight, BeiDou Navigation, and laser gyroscopes all originated from the University of Science and Technology.
