Hunan Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd. is a super-large state-owned enterprise jointly established by Xiangtan Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd., Lianyuan Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd., and Hengyang Steel Pipe Group Co., Ltd. It is a state-owned industrial enterprise within Hunan Province. After more than 20 years of development, Valin has grown from an annual steel output of 2.2 million tons at its inception to 26 million tons. Currently, the group has 34,000 employees on its payroll and total assets of 110 billion yuan. In 2020, it produced 26.78 million tons of steel and achieved operating revenue of 152 billion yuan, ranking 154th among China's top 500 enterprises in 2020.
In recent years, the steel group has conscientiously implemented the central government's requirements for deepening supply-side structural reform and high-quality development of the manufacturing industry, insisting on optimizing and improving the integrated sales-production-research attack system built around integrated product development. The proportion of high-end products has been continuously increased, rising from 38% in 2017 to the current 48%. The products are dominated by wide and thick plates, cold-rolled and hot-rolled thin plates, seamless steel pipes, and wire rods and bars, forming brand advantages in multiple segmented markets such as shipbuilding, construction machinery, marine engineering, high-rise building bridges, oil and gas, and automobiles.
High-grade polar ship plate steel is used in icebreakers and LNG carriers operating in the Russian Arctic; steel for construction machinery is applied to shield tunnel boring machines of Caterpillar, Sany Heavy Industry, Zoomlion Heavy Industry, XCMG, and a well-known advanced heavy industry enterprise in China; marine engineering steel is used in the Yamal project; bridge steel is applied to the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor bridge project, the Ecuador Bridge, and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge; high-rise building steel is used in the Shanghai Tower, Beijing New Airport, and the National Winter Olympics Speed Skating Oval project; pipeline steel is applied to the Lingshui 17-2 project and the China-Russia Eastern Gas Pipeline project; nuclear power steel is used in the world's first fourth-generation nuclear test platform; pile leg steel is applied to the "Blue Whale 1" and "Blue Whale 2" combustible ice mining projects; Valin Cable assisted the successful launch of the Beidou "Jixing" satellite; and high-end automotive sheet products are supplied to well-known joint-venture automobile OEMs such as SAIC Motor, FAW Group, and GAC Group.
