Recent Development of TSMC (China)
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (China) Co., Ltd. was registered and established in Songjiang District, Shanghai in August 2003 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited, forming an integral part of its global footprint. It has built one 8-inch fab with registered capital of USD 371 million. Since trial production in December 2004, TSMC (China) has successfully established and volume-produced various process technologies from 0.35 micron to 0.18 micron, primarily used in mobile phone chips, smart cards, computer peripheral controllers, DVD controllers, and LCD drivers, with trial production yields achieving international standards. Through three expansions in 2006, 2008, and 2010, monthly capacity reached 48,000 8-inch wafers in 2010, annual output exceeded 500,000 8-inch wafers, and profits surpassed USD 43 million.
