Guangzhou Municipal Construction Group Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Guangzhou Construction") was established in 1950. It is a large state-owned enterprise directly supervised by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Guangzhou Municipality. It holds the special qualification for general contracting of housing construction engineering and Grade A design qualification for the construction industry, as well as the special qualification for general contracting of municipal public works and Grade A design qualification for the municipal industry. Currently, it has 2 special qualifications for general construction contracting, 41 first-class qualifications for general construction contracting, 109 first-class qualifications for professional contracting, 33 Grade A design qualifications, and 5 Grade A qualifications for construction and municipal engineering supervision. Its business scope covers housing and municipal infrastructure construction, engineering survey and design, mechanical and electrical installation, decoration, environmental protection engineering, landscaping engineering, engineering supervision, building materials trade, real estate development and management, engineering testing and experimentation, new material research and development, as well as human resources services and financial services, basically covering all professional fields of the construction industry and its related supporting industrial chain. In 2021, it achieved an operating revenue of 249 billion yuan and a total profit of 4.8 billion yuan.
Guangzhou Construction has gone through development stages such as Guangzhou State-owned Construction Engineering Company, Guangzhou Construction Engineering Bureau, and Guangzhou Construction General Company. It was transformed into a limited company in 1996; in 2008, it was restructured and merged with Guangzhou Engineering General Contracting Group and Guangzhou Municipal Engineering Group to form a new Guangzhou Construction Group; in 2010, it wholly absorbed China Guangzhou International Economic and Technical Cooperation Company; in 2019, it wholly absorbed 40 landscaping enterprises under the Municipal Forestry and Landscaping Bureau and restructured Guangzhou Design Institute. Currently, it has 40 high-tech enterprises, 2 research institutes, 7 Grade A design institutes, 5 post-doctoral research workstations, 2 post-doctoral innovation practice bases, 1 national engineering sub-center, 23 provincial-level engineering centers, and 11 provincial-level enterprise technology centers; it has won 6 National Science and Technology Progress Awards (including 5 second prizes and 1 third prize), 1 second prize of the National Technological Invention Award, and 748 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology progress awards, demonstrating strong technical advantages.
As the main force of Guangzhou's urban construction, Guangzhou Construction has undertaken the construction of most major infrastructure, livelihood projects, and landmark projects in Guangzhou during various periods, with a cumulative completed area of over 90 million square meters, equivalent to rebuilding 8 old Guangzhou cities. It has successively constructed a number of landmark projects, including Guangzhou University City, Baiyun International Convention Center, Pazhou Exhibition Center, CITIC Plaza, Canton Tower, Guangzhou International Financial Center (West Tower), Guangzhou Opera House, the municipal transportation project of the core area of Zhujiang New Town, and the opening and closing ceremony venue for the Guangzhou Asian Games - Haixinsha Square. It has accumulated 32 Luban Prizes for China Construction Engineering, 32 Zhan Tianyou Prizes for China Civil Engineering, 47 China Municipal Gold Cup Demonstration Engineering Awards, 57 National Quality Engineering Awards, and 43 National Excellent Landscape Engineering/Design Awards.
Guangzhou Construction has strong talent strength. Currently, there are 223 enterprises with registered property rights within the group system (including 42 with registered capital exceeding 100 million yuan), with approximately 20,000 employees, of whom more than 60% have a bachelor's degree or above; there are 10,511 professional and technical personnel, including 2,095 with senior professional titles, 17 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, and 1 national engineering design master; there are 4,205 constructors, including 2,251 first-class constructors. The hard-working history of several generations of Guangzhou Construction people has condensed into the enterprise spirit of "Build thousands of magnificent buildings, leave beautiful scenery to the world" with dedication and hard work as the core, and the patriotic sentiment of "Build the millennium city of Guangzhou, create the pearl of the South" as the mission. Whether it was the emergency rescue after the Wenchuan earthquake, the rescue after the "12.20 landslide accident" in Shenzhen, or the poverty alleviation in Kashgar, Xinjiang and Bijie, Guizhou, Guangzhou Construction has been praised as a "particularly capable fighting" team. In particular, the Guangzhou New Town, a 650,000 square meter industrial assistance project in Xinjiang with an investment of 2.5 billion yuan by Guangzhou state-owned assets, is an important commercial and logistics industrial platform in southern Xinjiang, driving local employment of over 5,000 people, and playing an active role in promoting local poverty alleviation, economic development, and improvement of people's livelihood. It is known as "a banner of Guangdong Province's assistance to Xinjiang." In 2020, Guangzhou Construction actively responded to national, provincial, and municipal calls, undertook a series of emergency project constructions, and was rated as "National Advanced Collective for Fighting the COVID-19 Epidemic in the Housing and Urban-Rural Construction System," fully demonstrating the speed of Guangzhou Construction and the responsibility of state-owned enterprises. In 2021, when a new round of the epidemic emerged in Guangzhou, Guangzhou Construction stepped forward again, sounded the call to gather for the fight against the epidemic, supported the emergency isolation project for epidemic prevention in Liwan District, enclosed a 66-kilometer anti-epidemic defense line in 3 days, and successively completed the renovation and expansion tasks of multiple emergency projects, including the International Health Station, the Eighth People's Hospital, Guanggang Hospital, Baiyun International Convention Center, Dongfang Hotel, and Guangzhou Mansion, making positive contributions to winning the hard battle against the epidemic and promoting normalized epidemic prevention and control.
